Spooky Black Velvet Halloween Cake

A deliciously rich cake perfect for Halloween celebrations.

  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon black food coloring

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, whisk the buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, vanilla, and black food coloring until combined.
  4. Gradually pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, mixing until smooth.
  5. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  7. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove and cool completely on a wire rack.

Notes

  • For a more festive touch, decorate with orange and black icing.
