  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a heavy saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  2. Add the granulated sugar, water, and salt. Stir until the sugar dissolves.
  3. Bring the mixture to a boil without stirring. Use a candy thermometer and cook until it reaches 285°F.
  4. Remove from heat and pour onto a buttered baking sheet.
  5. Once cooled slightly, sprinkle the chocolate chips on top. Let them melt, then spread evenly.
  6. Top with chopped nuts if desired. Allow to cool completely before breaking into pieces.
